Nettle Bay (Baie Nettlé) runs along the thin spit of land between Simpson Bay Lagoon and the Caribbean, immediately west of Marigot on the French side. It is an unusual double-aspect setting: the lagoon side offers flat, shallow, sheltered water, calm enough for small children and a favorite for kitesurfing and windsurfing lessons, while the seaward side has a sandy beach with views toward Anguilla and the sunset.
Its big advantage is convenience. Marigot, the French capital, is right next door: the open-air market on the waterfront (busiest on Wednesday and Saturday mornings), Fort Louis above the harbour, a good range of restaurants and shops, and the regular passenger ferry across to Anguilla all within a short drive or a walk. Princess Juliana International Airport is roughly 15 to 20 minutes away, Grand Case and its restaurant row about 10 to 15 minutes, and Orient Bay around 20 minutes.
