Villa Baltazar sits above the calm water of Cul de Sac, on the island's northeast corner, looking out over the bay to the Pinel islet and Petite Cle just offshore. Newly renovated, it is a five-bedroom house that rents from three to five bedrooms, and it suits a family or group who want the water close and the pace slow.
All five bedrooms sit on the main level, which makes it an easy house for mixed groups and older guests: no stairs to negotiate, everyone on the same floor. Each is en-suite, and the big windows keep the bay in view from most of the rooms.
The pool is the centerpiece, set to face the sea with a wide view across the bay. Loungers and shaded seating surround it, and the calm water below is the real draw. Baltazar comes with kayaks, and Pinel islet is a short paddle across, close enough to make a morning of it and be back for lunch.
Cul de Sac is the quiet, nature-facing side of the island, and it is also the jumping-off point for Pinel. The little ferry from the Cul de Sac pier runs across in about five minutes, and we send guests to Karibuni, the beach restaurant on Pinel that has been grilling fresh fish and lobster there since 1988.
Orient Bay is about ten minutes by car, Grand Case a bit further north, and Princess Juliana Airport around thirty minutes. Our concierge can stock the fridge and arrange a chef or the boat before you arrive. From $6,500 a week in low season for all five bedrooms, Villa Baltazar is for a group that wants the bay, the kayaks, and Pinel on the doorstep.
